Product Details

Michael Snow (b. 1929) is one of the most remarkable multi-disciplinary Canadian artists.

Snow is renowned for a diverse body of work including experimental films, jazz recordings, the "Walking Woman" series and large scale public art.

Perhaps one of the most interesting characteristics of Snow's output is his ability to alternate between creating work that is populist and work that is avant-garde and esoteric.

In 2006, the Sorbonne awarded Michael Snow an honorary doctorate. He was only the second artist to ever received one from the prestigious French university. Pablo Picasso was his predecessor.

In 1976, Snow was chosen along with 9 other Canadian artists (from a selection of 300) to create a poster in honor of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.  Snow, like several of the artists chosen such as Jean McEwen, Guido Molinari and Claude Tousignant, created works for the poster that had almost no reference to Canadian nationalism or sport in general.

Michael Snow continues in the tradition of major artists designing Olympic posters, such as Josef Albers and David Hockney.  This is a rare chance to acquire a highly collectable vintage Olympic poster and an affordable and decorative work by Michael Snow.
